On Tuesday, the sources said that government has stood seriously
against spreading fake messages on WhatsApp and it had warned the
service provider to take immediate measures to control the misuse of
its platform.
Due to irresponsible and explosive messages on WhatsApp, incidents
of lynching have been reported in Assam, Maharashtra, Karnataka,
Tripura and West Bengal.
Ministry of Electronics and IT said in a statement, “Deep disapproval of
such developments has been conveyed to the management of
WhatsApp and they have been advised that remedial measures should
be taken to prevent proliferation of these fake and at times
motivated/sensational messages.”
