Prateek Hajela, the state coordinator of NRC is now on the curse edge of Bharatiya Janata Party’s Assam unit. Ranjit Kumar Das, president of BJP’s state unit have accused Prateek Hajela of dropping five key documents from the list for the claims and objections exercise.
Last week, Congress leader Debabrata Saikia had also accused Hajela of misleading the top court.
Ranjit Kumar Das said that we have urged the state government and the Centre to submit an affidavit to the Supreme Court to allow all 15 documents in the list for claims and objections.
Allegation over Hajela become really important when it came just a day after the loud praise of the ongoing National Register of Citizens (NRC) process at the BJP’s National Executive meeting in New Delhi.
Ranjit Kumar Das, president of Assam BJP, said, “Hajela is being self-contradictory! The dropping of five documents is not justified, it is an injustice. If you exclude five documents at this stage it will make things difficult for genuine Indian citizens who are out of NRC. Who gave him (Hajela) the authority to do this? Did he talk to stakeholders?” Das also claimed that even chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal was surprised by this submission.
Supreme Court had asked for the report and Hajela submitted its observation along with this objectionable point. However, the apex court has not shared this report with anybody.
Prateek Hajela has refused to comment over this issue.
