An explosion halted the developments of a hydropower project in Eastern Nepal which was being assisted by India. The project was to be inaugurated by PM Narendra Modi during his scheduled visit to the country this coming May.
The compound wall of the 900 MW Arun III hydroelectric power-plant office was damaged in the blast according to reports. The project was estimated to be completed and be operational by the year 2020. The blast that came just a few weeks prior to its inauguration has meanwhile halted the progress of the project. An investigation has been ordered into the matter. No organization has yet assumed responsibility for the blast.
