On February 24, there was a meet organized for businesses from North-east India and The Mandalay Region Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MRCCI). This meet was organized to discuss possibilities of trade between the two regions. One Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) document on cooperation between businesses in Mandalay and northeastern India was also signed.
Mr. Nanda Singh Bhaisora, consul general of India share about the purpose behind having such meetings. He told that we are sincerely concerned about promoting the products manufactured in Northeastern India and keen to boost cross-border trading between the Myanmar and India. No doubt, Indian products are compatible with the requirements of Myanmar’s market.
Mr Nanda further added that we have been discussing with our handicraft business, handloom and weaving business and other trading experts of spices, a variety of fruits, herbal plants and also handmade crafts made out of bamboo. As India and Myanmar have similar sorts of culture, we can see a good amount of consumption of these products in Myanmar market.
U Aung San Win, Vice chairperson of MRCCI also said that Mandalay can play a vital role in developing Indian businesses. We are welcoming businesses from India as this will be also benefiting our local businesses. This will also be enabling them to diversify their markets and grow.
Mr Gautan Muko Padia, India Ambassador to Myanmar was also present in this meet. He told that the northeast region will also trade with Thailand, Vietnam and Lao in recent future. However, the relationship between India and Myanmar is now stronger and this will create history. Along with Trade Corporation, both countries also have a superb amount of potential to gain more in tourism services.
Several Businesses from northeastern states such as Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Nagaland and Mizoram exhibited their unique products in Mandalay and also initiated discussions with local traders.
