Today, results of the high-stakes assembly elections in the three states Tripura, Nagaland and Meghalaya are out now. Certainly, good news is coming for Bhartiya Janta Party.  We have summarized a report of top three parties in each state. Here is the final result from three states of Northeastern region;

  • Top three in Nagaland are NPF with 28 wins, NDPP with 17 wins and BJP with 12 wins
  • Top three in Meghalaya are Cong with 21 wins, NPP with 19 wins and UDP with 6 wins
  • Top three in Tripura are BJP with 36 wins, CPI(M) with 15 win and IPFT with 8 wins

Certainly, the result of Tripura was a huge setback for the CPI(M) as BJP has ousted the Manik Sarkar government. If we go by the resources, Biplab Deb can be the next chief minister in the state. In Meghalaya, impact of Congress has emerged in a reasonable way as this one is the single largest party in the state. However, BJP is also showcasing confidence in possibilities of forming next government along with UDP and NPP. In Nagaland, the BJP-NDPP alliance set to wrest power from the NPF alliance. CM face Neiphiu Rio has already won unopposed from Northern Angami-II.
Tripura battle is certainly won by BJP, but the huge political rift is going to happen in Meghalaya. Congress is the single largest party in this state. However, BJP is also showcasing confidence in future possibilities. Congress Chief Minister candidate Mukul Sangma has won from both Ampati and Songsak constituencies. He retained Ampati seat defeating his nearest BJP rival Bakul Ch Hajong by over 6,000 votes and also the Songsak constituency defeating his nearest National People’s Party rival Nihim D Shira by over 1,300 votes.
However, PM has tweeted thanks to the people of Meghalaya for supporting BJP, and he mentioned, “The welfare of Meghalaya is of utmost importance for us. I appreciate the BJP Karyakartas for their continued efforts in the state to serve the people.”
Political experts are counting it as indication of BJP desire to form a non-Congress government with regional parties in Meghalaya. Conrad Sangma’s National People’s Party was not in pre-poll alliance, but there are huge possibilities of post poll alliance.
BJP’s Ram Madhav has also said that today’s result is indicating about a divided house. There is a possibility of a non-Congress government in Meghalaya and our effort would be in this direction. Other BJP leaders have also indicated that the party’s top leadership belt is not in the mood to hand over the state to Congress.
If we see it from the larger perspective, the anti-Congress vote goes to the NPP, the UDP, BJP, and all of these are part of NDA.
On the other side, congress has also taken action on this. Senior leaders like Ahmed Patel, Kamal Nath and Mukul Wasnik have rushed to handle the current situation as congress is also not interested in watching a repeat of Goa.
