As expected, Modi government has easily defeated the motion of no-confidence in the Lok Sabha after a 12-hour long debate. Only 126 votes were in favour of the no-confidence motion and 325 votes were against it. The government obtained a two-thirds majority with 451 members of parliament present and voting.
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Shiv Sena were the two parties which decided to stay away from the processing held in Lok Sabha. The TRS participated in the debate on the no-confidence motion, but its 11 MPs did not vote.
The division of vote was done just after the reply of Prime Minister Narendra Modi over this no-confidence motion.
Modi hit back at Congress chief Rahul Gandhi who had surprised him in the morning with a hug after his speech during the debate on the no-confidence motion.
Modi replied, “In the morning, the voting was not over, the debate was also not over one member comes running to me saying- Utho Utho Utho… What is his hurry to come to power? Let me tell this member it is the people who elected us. We are here because we have the blessings of 125 crore Indians. We are not here for selfish interest. Congress has no faith in the election commission, judiciary, in the RBI, in the International Agencies. I urge all of you to reject this proposal… What was the rush to discuss the no-confidence motion?”
After this, the result was absolutely in favour of Modi Government!
