Yesterday, a joint drive with JCILPS and TUYC ended with detection of many migrants residing without the valid documentation.
Convenor of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System, Student’s Wing, Manjit Sarangthem shared with the media that 56 non-locals were detected at Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai and Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Lekai. Two of them were found changing their surname of their local wives who belong to the area.
During this press meeting at Thangmeiband United Youth Club (TUYC), Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai, Imphal West, Manjit Sarangthem appealed that the block level officer should properly check and verify the non-locals’ identities.
General Secretary of TUYC, Moirangthem Thomas said the landlords should also check identification proof before they reside anyone in their rented houses. He also appealed that all non-locals should submit relevant documents to clubs within three months and the landlords should co-operate with the clubs while monitoring the non-locals.
