As per the recent official statement from state government, four high rank officials from Manipur Police had been suspended. There is one IPS officer in this list of four names. They got this suspension from their posts on the charge of having connection with the missing weapons case. Few weapons from 2nd Manipur Rifles armoury were theft between 2014 and 2018.
Mr. L Bikram, Joint Secretary, Department of Personnel shared with the media on last Saturday that all of them will stay in the premise area of the state police headquarters. They can’t leave the area without proper permission from higher authorities.
In a recent press conference, CM had also stated that the commandant of 2nd Manipur Rifles found that 56 auto 9 mm pistols along with 58 magazines were missing from the arms corte. It was noticed in the regular examination of the armoury. All these arms belonged to a collective assignment of 570 pistols that were received by the state police headquarters in 2014. These arms were supposed to be delivered to 2nd Manipur Rifles.
Chief Minister had also written to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and asked the agency for further investigation in this case. CM had shown this level interest in this case as it is a serious matter and related to national security. So far, two personnel of the 2nd Manipur Rifles have also been arrested. Further investigation is going on.
