A letter to Justice B.S. Chauhan, the Law Commission of India Chairperson, by Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Shia Central Waqf Board, Syed Waseem Rizvi read that introducing the UCC (Unifrom Civil Code) is not going to be a threat to the “Muslim Identity.”
The Law Commission is finding out if the UCC is going to be favourable to practice different personal laws like marriage, divorce under the single code.
The appeal made by the Muslim Identity is a mere relic of the two-nation theory, stressed on by Muslim Leaders to demand a separate state based on religion, read a letter by Mr Rizvi.
The letter also pointed out that nationalist Indian leaders only wanted a single nation, viz. India; and after the Muslims went away after partition, India now is ‘One Nation’ unified by the bond of brotherhood. He also said that the constitution assures religion, culture, and language and there should be no fear in regards to it.
