Yesterday, people from all walks of life have paid homage and offered floral tributes to the former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Governor, Najma Heptulla and Chief Minister N. Biren Singh led this public prayer meeting organised at City Convention Centre, Palace Compound, Imphal East.
Ashes of the former prime minister arrived at Imphal Airport from Delhi at around 12:30 pm. A procession was taken out in a specially-designed Maruti Gypsy from Airport to BJP Manipur Pradesh office located at Nityaipat Chuthek. From here, CM N Biren Singh joined this procession. Later, the procession was taken out led by the chief minister carrying the ashes of Vajpayee up to City Convention Centre, where a State level public prayer meeting was held.
Governor Najma Heptulla said, “I think if we really want to pay tribute to him, we should follow his path to serve the nation.”
She further said that Late Atal Bihari Vajpayee had always believed in his commitments, and he would be ever remembered for his works towards the service of the nation.
CM N. Biren Singh said, “One’s greatness and contribution to the nation is visible more clearly only when he/she passes away. This huge participation in the procession and cremation ceremony despite the scorching heat of around 42 Degree Celsius clearly showed how much love and respect people had for Vajpayee.”
Later, Chief Minister also immersed ashes of the former Prime Minister in Imphal River.
