On an exciting final day in the India Open Boxing Tournament, M C Mary Kom got a gold. However, Juggernaut of Indian men was failed by traditional powerhouse of boxing Uzbekistan and Cuba.
On Thursday, Pwilao Basumatary (64kg) won the first gold among all women players.  She claimed a 3-2 win over Thailand’s Sudaporn Seesondee. Pwilao, regular player in the national camp had earlier won a gold medal at the 2015 Nation’s Cup in Serbia.
Lovlina Borgohain from Assam also claimed the welterweight (69kg) gold among women. L Sarita Devi (60kg) lost to Finland’s Olympic bronze-medallist Mira Potkenon and settled for a silver medal only. Mira Potkenon gave a rusty performance with a final-round flourish and won by 3-2 score on the board.
In the men’s match, Sanjeet (91kg) won first gold of the day by beating Uzbekistan’s Sanjar Tursunov with split 3-2 verdict in his favour. Asian Games bronze-medallist Satish Kumar (+91kg) won silver after losing against Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov.  Bakhodir Jalolov won by 4-1 decision. Dinesh Dagar (69kg) also got silver after losing to Uzbekistan’s Bobo-Usmon Baturov.
In another match, National champion Manish Kaushik (60kg) was given a walkover by his Mongolian rival Battumur Misheelt.  Mongolian player was having a cut on his forehead that caused his walk out from the match and Manish Kaushik got his gold without stepping inside the ring.
Devanshu Jaiswal (81kg) also settled for silver in the match against Cuba’s David Gutierrez. Devanshu Jaiswal, crowd’s favorite was good enough in his defensive techniques. But he lost the match to score of 4-1 in this exciting match.
Former world silver medalist Saweety Boora (75kg) also settled for silver medal against Cameroon’s Essaine Clotilde.
