One 26-year-old Indian boy was fatally shot at a restaurant at Kansas City in Missouri State on Saturday. Later, Indian authorities identified him as Sharath Koppu from Telangana. Koppu hailed from Warangal district and was pursuing his masters in software engineering at the University of Missouri. And, he was working part-time at the restaurant in Kansas City.
The shooting at J’s Fish and Chicken Market on Prospect Avenue immediately raised concerns if this was another case related to hate crime. However, police said it was believed to be a case of “attempted robbery” and hate crime was not being suspected as of now.
A police officer said, “We immediately rendered aid in regard to the injuries and transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.”
Koppu’s death was confirmed by the official Twitter handle of the Indian consulate in Chicago. “Deepest condolences to the family of K Sharat who was a victim of a shooting in Kansas City Missouri. Consulate officials are on the way. We will provide all assistance,” it tweeted.
