Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared about the importance of Act East policy. This one is about focusing more intensely to increase ties with Asia-Pacific region. And, there will be more work for particularly the ASEAN countries. This policy is just about the progress of northeastern India.
He was addressing in “Advantage Assam – Global Investors’ Summit”. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “Indian government created this Act East Policy having Northeast in the heart of this policy. It requires more person to person contact, business relationships and also, ties with all the countries on India’s eastern side, especially ASEAN countries.”
Prime Minister further added, “This summit has a great tagline and it gives a big message, Advantage Assam: India’s Expressway to ASEAN. Well, this one is not simply a line but it comes with a value of a holistic vision too. Country believes that India’s growth is only possible when this part is also growing in the similar pace in a balanced manner.”
He also said, “Both central and state governments has done remarkable job in the last three-and-a-half years. As a result, we are now able to hold such an event. It was possible because now people are coming out of the thinking that nothing can be done about this country!”
The Prime Minister also mentioned about National Bamboo mission. He told about the new policy launched in the Union Budget and it will be about restructuring the National Bamboo mission.
Prime Minister Modi said, “Science says that Bamboo is a grass. However, the lawmakers blindly categorized it as a tree. Thus, a permit is required to cut or even transport it. There was a big loss for all Northeast Indians because of such law. It is our government that removed bamboo from Tree category and passed the real benefit to all the people in tribal population.”
Bhutan Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay was the chief guest of this event. Prime Minister also mentioned in his speech about the bond of friendship between two countries and interest of Bhutan Prime Minister in making it better in coming years. Prime Minister Narendra Modi shared about Budget of 2018 by terming it as a farmer friendly budget.  He also mentioned about as Ujjwala Yojana, Ayushman Bharat Yojana and Mudra Yojana in his addressing speech in this summit.
This two-day summit will showcase manufacturing opportunities and geo-strategic advantages of Assam to foreign as well as domestic investors.
