Patna’s Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (NMCH) is now facing the curse of heavy showers over last two days. Its medical wards, including the ICU, have turned into a pool. In the ICU, fish were seen swarming and used medical garbage was floating in the whole waterlogged ward.
Dr Chandrashekhar Prasad, NMCH medical superintendent said, “The condition is expected to improve by Monday morning if the downpour stops. The water pump was used to flush out the stagnant water.”
Due to heavy rain, the roof on the second floor of Doctors’ PG Hostel fell on Saturday night.  Dr Rajiv Ranjan Kumar Raman of NMCH’s medicine department said, “A student was injured in the mishap.”
In the whole Patna city, commuters had a harrowing time on Sunday. Waterlogged roads and traffic snarls were like a big curse for people because of heavy overnight downpour in the city.
The rainfall also caused overflowing of drain water, wreaking havoc in densely-populated low-lying residential localities. Conditions were really griming for residents living in low-lying areas like Rajendra Nagar, Nala Road, Makhania Kuan, Agamkuan, Khagaul, Kankerbagh, Phulwarisharif, Thakurbari Road, Gardanibagh, Sabzibagh, Pataliputra Colony, Bazar Samiti and Kadamkuan.
People were not only worried because of rain, but also the open manholes which were overflowing. As a precautionary measure, residents in low-lying areas have also placed some sandbags in front of the main gate of their houses.
In this main city of Bihar, water-logging happens in every monsoon and people believe that there is no escaping from this. They need to survive with it.
