A criminal gang busted by Chinese authorities. This gang has allegedly used drones to smuggle iPhones and other smartphones between Hong Kong and Shenzen. Chinese customs officials told state media that these phones are worth of almost $80 million.
As per the officials, this was the first case in their knowledge. Use of drone for smuggling goods is seen for the first time. They have used drones to suspend two, 200-metre cables between buildings on either side of the border. Bags having these iPhones and smart-phones were attached to these cables and pulled over from Hong Kong to Shenzhen. They were using drones to smuggle 15,000 devices in one night. This Chinese gang was busted during a joint operation of concerned authorities of these two cities.
Last year, drones were illegally used over an airport in southwestern China. That had caused a good amount of chaos too as it disturbed the regular air traffic. China has increased its efforts to regulate the use of drones across the country. Last year, the government had also mandatory the requirement for drones over a certain weight to be registered under the real names of their owners.
