In a strange incident in the Kotlen village under Saitu Gamphazol sub-division in Kangpokpi district, Manipur, six families in a village were forced to leave their homes on the 28th of April, 2018 because they refused to send their children to the village government school. Abiding by a code unanimously agreed upon by the villagers, all the children below the fifth grade from the families residing n the village must attend the local village government school. The decision was made in the Village Annual Assembly of Kotlen to uplift and improve the village school.
The families of Tonglet Haokip, Henkholen Khongsai, Ngamhen Khongsai, Khaigin Khongsai, Paolun Khongsai and Hemkhothang Khongsai, however, deemed this decision injudicious and decided to go against it. They were made to leave the village by the authorities forcibly after that. The families have registered their complaints with the authorities saying the act is a violation of the Right to Education article.
