On Monday, Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah sent a legal notice to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP president Amit Shah. Karnataka chief minister has threatened to file Rs 100-crore defamation suit against them.
VS Ugrappa who is a lawyer and also Congress’s member of legislative council, has drafted this notice. He has accused Modi for making several allegedly defamatory statements especially the one statement about a 10% commission of government in every project.
Talking with the Press, VS Ugrappa said, “We have seen several political advertisements in Kannada and English newspapers which are defamatory against Siddaramaiah. Accusing the BJP leaders of having committed libel under sections 499, 500, 501 and 502 of the Indian Penal Code, the notice called for an unconditional apology.”
Responding to the notice, state BJP spokesperson S Prakash said that it shows their defeat and their weakness. We will proceed over this after consulting our legal team and people of Karnataka will give him proper reply in a forthcoming voting day.
