A famous bitcoin exchange firm from Delhi has faced a loss of bitcoins worth Rs 20 crore. This can be called as the biggest cryptocurrency loss in India so far. Almost 440 bitcoins were stolen from its wallets by hackers.
Delhi Police’s Cyber Cell shared that Coinsecure is the company name. This firm has over two lacs users in India. Delhi Police has registered a case under IPC sections and Section 66 of the IT Act. One senior security official from the company realized that all offline stored bitcoins vanished. Later on, the company’s team realized that it was because of a breach in their passwords. All such passwords were leaked online and hackers were able to make this theft successful. Professionals from this company tried to trace these hackers, but it was not possible as data logs were erased and transfer of these bitcoins can’t be traced by them.
On Thursday night, Coinsecure declared about this hacker’s attack on their users via website notification. Company owners have confirmed that none of the customers of Coinsecure will face any loss as the firm is ready to pay in return for their losses.
Delhi Police Cyber Security Expert told that there was no practice of keeping these private keys alias passwords in any sort of online platform. However, we have noticed that these private keys were available online for more than 12 hours. Delhi Police said that we have seized their servers to ascertain the extent of the system breach. We are also checking their other existing wallets.  Delhi Police has called the senior security officials from this company for questioning about this theft.
