Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) is going to boycott the Independence Day. This would be done for intensifying ongoing agitation in the demand of ouster of the vice-chancellor, A.P. Pandey from Manipur University. It has been over two months and the agitation demanding the ouster of vice-chancellor is still unheard.
M. Dayaman, President of MUSU, shared with media persons that this is really sad that both the state government and central government are not worried about the career of thousands of students. Instead of this, they are shielding the vice chancellor.
He further added that the news published in a famous newspaper stating ‘the fact-finding committee did not find any evidence of corruption against Pandey’, is discouraging the movement of the Manipur University community.
MUSU president also mentioned that none of the members of the varsity community has seen the committee visiting premise of the university. Our demand is about the removal of Pandey but not an enquiry against him. We will not let them visit the varsity as it is not an independent and high-level committee.
MUSU appealed to the students of the state not to participate or cooperate in the celebration of Independence Day. The union said that if the government still fails to resolve this issue, it will be better for the chief minister and the governor to resign from their post as ‘unfit leader’.
