Over vice-chancellor ouster campaign, Manipur University is in complete shutdown mode and future of thousands of students pursuing the sixth semester in 86 affiliated institutes are in peril.
Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU), Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) and Manipur University Staffs’ Association (MUSA) are demanding the removal of the vice-chancellor, A.P. Pandey. This agitation has now crossed 40 days time period. Considering no response mode of state government, a relay hunger strike has also been launched by the university community. Today is its third day and it might be continued till July 21.
MUTA spokesperson, Debananda Ningthoujam said if the government fails to remove the ‘irresponsible’ vice-chancellor by July 21, the university community will launch more intensive forms of agitation. Before that, we are going to have a mass rally in the heart of Imphal city too. With other local bodies and the public of the state, we will raise our voice in more intensive form.
Federation of Central Universities Teachers Association (FEDCUTA) has also supported the varsity community. Association strongly condemned the brutal lathi charge on students. FEDCUTA has appealed for the constitution of an independent enquiry into the charges against the vice-chancellor.  FEDCUTA has also appealed the governor to intervene in this matter and for the sake of student’s careers.
