Manipuri Students’ Federation (MSF) has demanded the resignation of CM N Biren. MSF is annoyed of a statement given by CM in his speech at Madhavpur Fair held at Porbandar, Gujarat. Chief Minister N Biren had said that the whole of the North East region has been a part of India since the time of Lord Krishna.
MSF president Ngariyanbam Milan said, “This statement is given by totally ignoring the history of Manipur. CM N Biren should resign as this statement was like selling off the entire Manipuri Nation just to obtain some benefits from the Government of India.” MSF president was meeting with media persons in the Keishamthong Top Leirak office on Thursday evening.
Ngariyanbam Milan further added that CM has tried to project Manipuri History in an absolutely insane way by linking it with Hindutva and Indian history. This action is highly condemnable and he must step down from CM’s post. If he is so careless about giving such statements which represent Manipuri History in a wrong way then he is simply not a qualified one to be on such responsible post. He must resign.
Milan said that N Biren must give a valid clarification about this statement. If CM does not have convincing clarification then MSF would launch strong modes of agitation and common man of Manipur will be there to participate in it.
Certainly, this is an act which should not be tolerated. Here, our CM has attempted to manipulate Manipuri History by linking Manipur with India since Lord Krishna’s days. However, Merger Agreement is of 1949 and people have been contending that the Merger Agreement lacks legal sanctity and Constitutional validity, he said.
The Chief Minister’s statement comes at a time when MSF has been working on a campaign against adding false data about the history and geography of Manipur in text books.
MSF president Ngariyanbam Milan said that MSF and Manipuri people had banned books and authors who miss-interpreted the history of Manipur and contributed in adding false data. In the past, we had given a fight who manipulated Manipur’s history and geography in text books. The statement given by chief minister is also a challenge to the history of Manipur and the Manipuri Nation.
