In three-day long North East Graduate Congress (NEGC) at the University of Science & Technology Meghalaya, Modern College has received “Most Disciplined College” award. This summit was joined by over ten thousand students of around 200 colleges from all the North East States. This mega event was launched by Governor of Assam, Prof Jagdish Mukhi. This valedictory function began with amazing cultural procession showcasing the diverse culture of all North East States.
Chancellor of USTM, Mahbubul Hoque has also encouraged participation of students in the flagship event of the university. Chancellor said, “Doors of our university are always open for brilliant students having lack of resources for higher education. You just need to get recommendation from your college principal. We are here to assist you in studying further.”
He also emphasized over the importance of entrepreneurship and added further in his statement, there has to be innovative approach in any entrepreneurial venture.
This mega function was attended by thousands students representing colleges from various parts of the region. Chancellor of USTM, Mahbubul Hoque presented pine saplings to all the participating colleges. Pizes and awards in different disciplines were also conferred to the winners.
Some of the prizes given in the event were;

  • Three scooters to the Best Debater, the Best Graduate and the Best Footballer
  • Best Team of Cultural Procession (1st – Nagaland, 2nd – Assam and 3rd – Manipur)
  • Cash prizes of Rs 15,000, Rs 10,000 and Rs 7,000 to the three Best Colleges – Koklabari Samuguri College (first), Imphal College (second) and Pub Kamrup College (third)
  • Most Active College (Diphu Govt College)
  • Most Disciplined College (Modern College)

While other twelve colleges were awarded consolation prizes consisting of certificates, mementoes, plants and cash awards.
This event was also full of worthy sessions;

  • A technical session on competitive exams by Sailen Baishya, a National workshop for teachers titled “Extension Education”
  • Session on personality development by renowned motivational speaker Thomas John Rose, a soft skill workshop
  • A technical session on “Youth and Entrepreneurship” by Dr Nomal Bora, CMD, GNRC Hospitals
  • Two panel discussions on “Youth, Politics and Corruption” and “Women for Society” were held.

This function was also attended by RS Mooshahary, former Governor of Meghalaya; Prof Ved Prakash, former Chairman, UGC; Prof Bhabesh Chandra Goswami, Vice-Chancellor, Cotton University; Dilip Tirkey, MP, Olympian and former captain of Indian hockey team.
