Since the last 52 days, Manipur University community is demanding the ouster of the vice-chancellor, Adya Prasad Pandey. And, the agitation is now becoming a state level protest. Considering this, the state government had sent a team for discussion with the university community.
Yesterday, state government representatives’ team comprising of deputy chief minister, Y. Joykumar,   Revenue minister, Karam Shyam, Health minister, L. Jayantakumar and Education minister, Th. Radheshyam visited Manipur University and met teachers, students and staff.
Education minister, Th. Radheshyam told about the meeting to media person and claimed it as one fruitful meeting. However, Mayanglambam Dayaman, President of the student union, counted this meeting as one totally unworthy and meaningless. He shared that these ministers had appealed for not going on the violent agitations and also promised for visiting the capital after the Monsoon Assembly session. The team promised that they will press the HRD ministry to bring a solution on the demand for the ouster of the vice-chancellor.
N. Nimai Singh, spokesperson of Manipur University Teachers’ Association (MUTA) has also rejected the recently formed ‘fact-finding committee’. In yesterday’s press meet at MUTA office, he said that it was just to save Pandey from the genuine allegation made against him as all the three members are still government employees and have a close relation with Pandey.
Manipur University Students’ Union (MUSU) has also declared that student union will not change its decision of disrupting the Manipur Legislative Assembly session.
