5th Women’s Asian Championship Trophy is happening in Korea. In the opening match at the Sunrise Stadium on Sunday, India beat Japan 4-1 in the opening match. Navneet Kaur’s hat-trick of goals helped defending champions India get off to a flying start.
Indian women have displayed well-strategized attack to break the strong Japanese defence. With the help of forward Vandana Katariya, Navneet Kaur made two goals in the first 25th minute. Good defence led by Indian skipper Sunita Lakra ensured Japan didn’t find any chances in the circle.
Besides Indian women’s hockey forward Navneet, centre-forward Anupa Barla was the next goal scorer in this four goals tally. Aki Yamada was the only goal scorer for Japan.
Today, India will next take on China in their second pool stage match.
