By making it to the India squad for the upcoming under-15 football tournament in Bhutan, eight girls from Haryana’s Sadalpur have shown that the spirit always wins over adversity. This is going to be organised by the SAFF and it will begin on August 9.
Sadalpur, a village in Haryana, certainly not yet be a football hub for girls, but the story of Manisha, Anju, Ritu, Kavita, Poonam, Kiran, Nisha and Varsha will certainly going to change that. These eight girls come from poor families.
The Vinod Football Academy is 13 km from Sadalpur and these eight girls cycle twice daily to train with him. They have a training ground now but must cycle almost 52 km daily for sessions.
Vinod Loyal, a former university-level footballer and now, their coach said, “For the last two years, our girls are making it to the India team and having so many from one village is a big achievement. Here, many girls followed them and now parents are encouraging their daughters to pursue football.”
