Bailey bridge in Nungdolan along the Jiri-Imphal road (NH 37) had broken down on March 4 and this unfortunate incident is really causing the issue to many truck drivers. These drivers used to carry FCI goods from Jiribam to Imphal. Now, this transportation is facing problem and these drivers are looking for immediate action from the State Government to repair this bailey bridge. According to reports, over 140 FCI vehicles are stranded at Leingangpokpi in Jiribam.
There is an alternate road to bypass this bridge. But, this road is also damaged because of the rainfall in this area. From last two days, rain has halted the transport and all these trucks are stranded on this road.
It has been three four days and around 200 heavy vehicles are stranded at Nungdolan. Many drivers are carrying goods of daily use for public and this situation has caused zero movements of transport. Speaking to media, one of these drivers stated that we used to carry several sorts of FCI goods for 2-3 trips in our thirty days schedule. Of course, we can increase the number of trips from Jiribam to Imphal and vice-versa. But, the State Government should provide escorts and immediate action in such situations.
These drivers have also shared the concern with All Jiribam Transport Driver Union. They have urged the concerned authorities to take action over the concerns of these drivers. Earliest action for repairing the bridge and the road is necessary so that normal transportation of the FCI goods can be possible.
