One Sydney-based aviation research body has mentioned that within next two years, the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI), Delhi could overtake London’s Heathrow airport in terms of traffic volume.
As per the report of the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation (CAPA), IGI airport handled almost 65.7 million passengers in the 2017-18. It is likely to cross 80 million passengers by 2019-20. If it will happen then it might overtake London Heathrow in terms of traffic volumes.
At present, Indira Gandhi International Airport remains among the top 20 busiest airports globally. IGI handles over 1,200 flight operations in one day.
The Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation report also talks about 16.5% rise in the passenger’s counts on India’s airports.
