After the Cabinet Meeting held yesterday, Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr Jitendra Singh shared with the media personals’ that Central Government will give total fund for all sorts of development projects in the North Eastern region. Earlier it was 90% contribution from the central government and 10% was done by the state government. Dr Jitendra Singh called this decision as a historic one.
He further shared that Central government has already assigned budget of 4500 crores for this initiative. Now on words, this formula will work. Hence, the ongoing projects will be accomplished as per the older formula of 90:10. However, new projects would be totally funded by central government. We have been notified that all ongoing projects would be completed in next two years.
Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Dr. Singh further mentioned that central government will be focusing on development projects related to regional tourism, bamboo production and utilization, higher education and road development. The central government has also planned for a road development scheme, especially for the north east region.
Dr. Singh further added that there are several roads those are between two states and got neglected from both the states. Such orphan roads will be covered in this Northeast Road Development Scheme of the central government. We can say that these roads are not orphans now and the centre had adopted them and these will be developed by the total contribution of the central government. For the initial stage, a project of Rs 1,000 crore has been approved.
Dr. Jitendra Singh mentioned that Prime Minister himself has shown sincere interest in bringing fair development to the North East and people in this region will start seeing “transformational results”.
