While landing at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, one passenger aircraft of Bangladesh has reportedly crashed. Pictures available on Twitter has scene of thick smoke billowing in the airport area. An airport official reportedly shared that the plane “became unstable” during its landing in the airport and crashed. Various pictures over social media sites are now available as locals have shared these pictures. All of these have plumes of black smoke rising from the place where the plane crashed. This crash happened to the east of the runway at Kathmandu international airport.
This Bangladeshi plane was carrying 67 passengers and crashed near Kathmandu airport as it was coming in to land. Several firefighters battled with fire to rescue passengers. Local police spokesman Manoj Neupane told press that out of these passengers, 31 died at the spot and nine died in nearby hospital in Kathmandu. Other 23 passengers have injuries due to this crash.
Airport spokesman Prem Nath Thakur said that there were 4 crew members along with these passengers inside this air plane. Police and army are trying to cut apart the plane to rescue all of them.
Mountainous Nepal has a history for air accidents and even small aircraft often run into trouble at local airstrips. In 1992, one Thai Airways flight from Bangkok crashed while trying to land in Kathmandu and that crash caused loss of all passengers on board.
Official report about loss of lives and reasons of this crash are still to come. Details regarding this accident are awaited.
