Today, Assam government is coming up with the publication of the final draft list of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and considering its value, the state government has not left any stone unturned to stabilize the law and order in whole Assam state.
Kuladhar Saikia, the Assam director general of police said, “If anybody tries to break law, they will be dealt with severely. We are expecting no trouble. The process has seen wholehearted participation from the public too.”
However, the state has also beefed up its security arrangements. Over 100 companies of central paramilitary forces have been requisitioned along with already deployed 85 companies across the state.
On Thursday, chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal also met with all superintendents of police and deputy commissioners to review the law and order situation. The whole state has been divided into zones to be monitored by senior police officers. State machinery is also keeping an eye out for hate messages on social media platforms.
One senior police official shared about the possibility of communal violence as the recent statement by Union minister Kiren Rijiju that Hindu Bangladeshis who have come till December 2014 have nothing to worry has not gone down well in Assam. Thus, CM Saikia asked for people’s participation to maintain law and order.
