The social activist Anna Hazare finally broke his six days long fast after having a conversation with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and getting an assurance regarding the appointment of the Lokpal at centre and Lokayukta at state. The social activist went on a hunger strike at Ramlila Maidan, demanding the fair cost of crops to the peasants and farmers, the appointment of Lokpal and electoral reforms.
After breaking his fast he said that the government has assured that the appointments will be made as soon as possible.
Although, Hazare while addressing the media made it clear that he will again go for a strike if his demands won’t be accomplished within the time period of six months. He said that he will wait until August and by then if the appointments will not be made he will again begin the strike in September.
He further said that it is the prime duty of the government to look after its public and do whatever is necessary for the benefit of the public. He said that if the government will perform its duty properly then protests will not be needed.
Anna Hazare also asked the central and state government to provide how his demands will be executed within the given time frame.
In the meantime, a man flung a shoe on stage where the social activist Anna Hazare, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the Union Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat were sitting. Although it is unclear to whom the shoe was targeted.
Hazare was on hunger strike from 23 March and has shed 5 kgs during this time.
