According to a Press release from IGAR (South), 12 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector Assam Rifles has made a seizure of 73 gold bars worth Rs.3.62 Crore on 10th May. These gold bars were recovered from two vehicles during routine checking of vehicles at the Permanent Vehicle Check Post (PVCP), Khudengthabi. 12.075 kg gold bars were found hidden inside the front and rear tires of both vehicles.
The van drivers, Mufijuddin, resident of Moreh and Abdul Rashid, resident of Muslim Nagar, Loubuk Leikai, Moreh have been handed over to Customs Officials at Imphal.
This Press release also said that Tamu-Moreh Route along Asian Highway 1 is the preferred route for international illegal gold traders. In last 4 months, Assam Rifles has seized 36.757 kg of gold along with NH -102 only.
