16th All India Budokan Open Karate Championship, Suman Cup 2018 held at Visakhapatnam has been an awesome tournament for Manipur karate team. 16 players of Manipur karate team bagged a total of 22 medals. The championship was started from February 16. This Karate team of 12 boys and 4 girls won 13 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals. This team was led by Kh Sanjit as a chief instructor who also officiated as match referee in the championship.
Gold Medalists in the individual events for boys and girls are S Jamesbond (12 yrs), H Nongdamba (10 yrs), H Lanchenba (8 yrs), L Tussar (U-5 yr) and L Shiwani (4 yrs).   Misna S (8 yr ), L Bhusan (7 yrs) and L Drushan (6 yrs) got second place in the individual kata event finals and got the silver medals. S Athouba (4 yr) claimed a bronze medal in the same event. Misna S (40-45 kg) also added a gold medal in the Kumite event for girls while S Priya finished second to win a silver medal. L Punsiba (40-45 kg) H Nongdamba (30-35 kg) and Kh Langamba got bronze in the kumite event for boys.
In the team kata event, Athouba S, L Tussar and Lanchenba H added another gold medal in Manipur’s tally. On the other hand, girls team comprising of A Asha, Misna S and L Shivani secured one bronze medal. In the kumite event for boys, W Irabanta (50-55 kg), Ch Pravin (45-50 kg), Lanchenba H (30-35 kg), S Albis (35-40 kg) and Athouba S (25-30 kg) emerged as champions to have gold medals in their hands.
