In a recent town hall, Rahul Gandhi said that he is absolutely ready to be India’s prime minister if the Congress emerges as the largest party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
On Tuesday, one reporter asked Congress president Rahul Gandhi regarding his will to be the Prime Minister of India. He replied, “Well it depends… it depends on how well the Congress does. If the Congress is the biggest party then yes, I will.”
Political experts are seeing this remark of Congress president in various ways. During the 10-year rule of the United Progressive Alliance government, Rahul Gandhi had repeatedly rejected offers even to join the Cabinet.
According to an expert, his remark was to boost the party cadre. Another politics expert has counted it as a try for escalating a personality clash with Prime Minister Modi. Few others have also mentioned Gandhi’s comment, a decent way of sending a message across anti BJP parties that the Congress sees itself as a front-runner to lead a coalition government.
