Smt Chirom Indira has been selected for the prestigious award ”Nari Shakti Puraskar 2017” for her notable contribution towards the women empowerment, progress of socio-economic conditions of the weaker handloom sector labors. She is wife of Ch. Sanjoy Singh from Thangmeiband Lairenhanjaba Leikai, Manipur.
Every year, Ministry of Women & Child Development, Govt. of India confers this Highest Civilian Honour for Women’ on International Women’s Day. Nari Shakti Puraskar award is to acknowledge and recognize the services of individuals who have made a lasting contribution to women’s empowerment. Certainly, this initiative works as an effective effort to recognize role models who act as torch bearers for the younger generation too.
Smt. Chirom Indira is one of the Women Entrepreneur, Designer, Exporter, and Social Worker from the North-Eastern Region of India. She is a lady of huge ambition and she works really hard to achieve what she wants. Chirom was born in Sagolband Sayang Kurao Makhong, Imphal West. Her dedication for the development of handloom sector and also towards working for the women empowerment made her a well-known figure in the north east region.
As a woman entrepreneur, she believes that communal harmony is the single key to social development in such a multi-ethnic society like Manipur. By giving women skills also, we can unlock their full potential and enable every woman to find a new meaningful place in society.
It’s a known fact that success doesn’t come overnight. Of course, things take time; it demands your sincere hard work and enthusiasm. Chirom believed in herself and her work. She has always maintained a very positive attitude towards all the sections of society. She has sincerely worked for woman empowerment in Manipur and the efforts of her hard work bring smiles to thousands of women in the region.
Smt. Chirom Indira has earlier received several other awards including National Award in Design Development of Handloom Products honoured by Ministry of Textiles and DMA All India Women Entrepreneurs Award 2018 (Super Achiever Award) honoured by Delhi Management Association (DMA).
