A medical student from Jammu & Kashmir in the Philippines, Sheikh Ateeq, tweeted for Union Minister Sushma Swaraj to help him in getting a new passport. Sheikh Ateeq has mentioned his location on twitter profile as “Indian occupied Kashmir”. Till yesterday, he was thinking of having scored a point by listing such location. However, he ran into trouble while seeking help from the minister due to this sort of location in his profile.
After reading his tweet, Union Minister Sushma Swaraj responded that there is no place called Indian-occupied Kashmir. She told that she would have helped him if he had belonged to Jammu and Kashmir.
Ateeq corrected the location on his Twitter bio to “Jammu & Kashmir/ Manila”. After this, Union Minister Sushma Swaraj has also acknowledged the correction and asked the Indian envoy in Manila, Jaideep Mazumdar, to help the student.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appreciated Sushma Swaraj for setting an example of effective use of social media for offering good governance.
