A 24-hour bandh in Senapati district from 6 AM of June 27 was called by various civil society organizations under the aegis of the Naga Peoples’ Organisation. This is in protest against the frequent transfer and posting of officers in the district.
Due to this bandh, national high number 2 will be blocked for 24 hrs.
According to the NPO spokesperson, the frequent transfers are detrimental to peace and development in the district. The most recent transfer was of SP, M. Pradip Singh, IPS, who was posted in the district barely four months ago and replaced by Hopson Sapam, MPS as i/c SP Senapati. This district has been “without with a full-fledged SP from August 2017 till January 2018 during which SP i/c Kangpokpi was overseeing Senapati too. No one is there to answer for this sort of step-motherly treatment to our people. This district is prone to law and order problems.
NPO has declared that educational institutions, electricity department, water supply, medical, media and paramilitary will be exempted from the purview of the bandh.
