Speaking on the occasion of “International Day Against Drug abuse and
Illicit Trafficking, 2018” at JNIMS hospital complex on Tuesday, Manipur
chief minister N Biren Singh said that there are 36,000 victims of drug
abuse in Manipur. Illegal poppy plantation worth Rs 130 crore has been
destroyed by the state government. In this year, state government
confiscated 1645 kg of ganja, 5900 N10 tablets, 8,86,880 WY tablets, 78
kg of opium and 10 kg of heroin in 2018.
Chief Minister further added that state government will act against all
anti-social elements irrespective of their political connections. Police
department has started the community policing initiative to root out
the drug menace. We now also have fast-track court for trial of cases
related to abuse and smuggling of drugs.
CM mentioned that all this has happened with the support of people in
the state and he needs this support in future too.
