Yesterday, JAC against Base year 1951 of Manipur People’s Bill – 2018 was preparing to begin a sit-in to protest against the Bill at Lalpani Bazaar, Sonapur in Jiribam. Police reportedly intervened to make the place empty and shared about the prohibitory ordered imposed under CrPC 144. Afterwards, a clash between police and agitators has caused injuries to six agitators and police personnel including the Superintendent of Police
Some of the injured people have been admitted to Jiribam Hospital while others were taken to medical facilities at Silchar. Indian Reserve Battalion and police commandos have been reinforced in the area.
The rally was jointly organised by JAC against the base year 1951 of Manipur People Bill and All Jiribam United Minority Peoples, Jiribam. They submitted a memorandum to DC Jiribam Robert Singh Kshetrimayum addressed to the governor.
