A system to raise an alert for the railwaymen regarding an abnormal rise in water level of major rivers has been successfully installed at Saraighat Rail-cum-Road Bridge in Guwahati. This radar technology-based system will continuously monitor the water level in Brahmaputra River and send SMS to pre-determined mobile phones at regular intervals.
On Monday, NFR Chief Public Relation Officer P.J. Sharma told media that similar system will also be installed in total ten bridges within NFR. This system will be truly helpful in suitably regulated train services to obviate any danger in case of higher water level in the river. It will send an alert signal to pre-decided cell-phones at the time of danger. The distance between the instrument and water surface will be calculated from the travel time of electromagnetic waves. Thus, it can easily decide the accurate and reliable level of water.
