On Wednesday, Union Minister of State for Home, Hansraj Gangaram Ahir said in Rajya Sabha that final form of National Register of Citizens (NRC), prepared in Assam will surely incorporate all the names of genuine Indian nationals.
Hansraj Gangaram Ahir further added that a partial draft of the NRC, covering 1.90 crore people out of the 3.29 crore applicants in Assam, was published on December 31, 2017, including the names of those applicants in respect of whom the entire process of verification was completed.
Hansraj Gangaram Ahir further added that NRC draft published on December 31, 2017, was just a part draft and it has covered 1.90 crore people out of the 3.29 crore applicants in Assam. All those names were of applicants who have cleared the entire verification process. Other applicants are under various stages of verification. As soon as, this process got completed, there will be another published NRC draft.
The NRC in Assam is being updated as per the Citizenship (Registration of Citizens and Issue of National Identity Cards) Rules, 2003. Its update process is under the scrutiny of The Supreme Court.
Union Minister of State for Home was replying to a written question and he further said that the work was being carried out in a fair and objective manner. Final NRC will be having the names of all genuine Indian citizens in the state of Assam.
