On 9th April, Manipuri documentary ‘Ima Sabitri’ got the prestigious Satyajit Ray Golden Award for the best documentary film. Kolkata has witnessed the First South Asian Short Film Festival (SASFF) 2018 and this Manipuri documentary directed by Bobo Khuraijam won this prestigious award. This documentary film won against 51 other films in this section.
According to the press release, ‘Ima Sabitri’ was selected as the best documentary film in this 11-day film festival. South Asian Short Film Festival was kicked off on March 31.
This was the first time that Federation of Film Societies of India (Eastern Region) has organized such competitive festival. This film festival was for short-fiction and documentaries only. From various countries of South Asia, filmmakers have submitted their films for the festival. There were 179 films for the jury of this festival.
As per the press release, the closing ceremony of this festival held yesterday evening. This ceremony at Nandan, Kolkata was also attended by eminent film-makers. Satarupa Sanyal, Kamaleshwar Mukhopadhyay and Sekhar Das were present in this ceremony. Secretary of West Bengal Film Journalist Association, Nirmal Dhar were also present along with Mahua Bannerjee who is the CEO of Nandan.
This documentary film ‘Ima Sabitri’ had received so many awards in recent times. It was declared as the best documentary in the Mumbai International Film Festival and the best non-feature film in the State Film Awards. Not just this, this documentary had been appreciated in several International Film Festivals in several countries.
‘Ima Sabitri’ is the production of Masek Mangal Films and produced by Gurumayum Ranita. It was cinematographed by Irom Maipak and edited by Sankhajit Biswas. In several festivals, the jury had appreciated its music which is given by Heisnam Tomba and sound designing work which is done by Sukhanta Mazumdar.
