A young Manipur woman, lieutenant, S. Vijaya Devi became part of the first all-women team from India to achieve historic accomplishment. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi had also expressed his heartfelt happiness over the great achievement.
Navika Sagar Parikrama was aimed at promoting women empowerment along with the Government of India’s thrust for Nari Shakti. The expedition has been successful in breaking many stereotypes about travelling in the sea by women.
Lieutenant, S. Vijaya Devi is an outgoing young woman hailing from Kwakta under Bishnupur district, Manipur.  Talking about the biggest thing she missed Vijaya said, “I being one of the youngest crew members, one thing I really missed on board was homemade food, making food on board was not easy, the weather was very tough but we have to make it and we managed it somehow.”
Using a 55-foot sailing vessel named INSV Tarini, this team of six women started their journey from September 10, 2017, and reached Goa on May 21 this year after completing 254 days journey.
