An 18-year-old Hima Das who recently ran her very first competitive race 18 months back has successfully created an amazing athletic record. Being a daughter of a rice farmer residing in Dhing village in a small district named Nagaon won a gold medal at the World U20 Championship held at Tampere Finland. She participated in a 400-meter race and successfully accomplished the same beating the entire historical time records.
Though her starting was a bit slow as she initiated her talent by trailing on the home run yet her tremendous run in the final round of global event of 80 meters where she left behind the three strong competitors recorded her clocking as 51.46 seconds. As per the statement was given by her coach, ‘Nipon Das, the trainer of Hima Das mentioned that he was not at all worried when the teenager couldn’t make it to the top 3 at the final curve. He further added “Her race initiated with 80 meters where her potential, strength, and courage was clearly observed. Though just 2 years back she carried her very first spikes, she was able to score 51.13 seconds in the race”.
With this amazing victory, Hima Das participated in the elite clubs of Indian athletes that are especially known for achieving medals in the world U20 championship. However, she is the sole runner in the hall of popular athletes such as Neeraj Chopra (gold, javelin), Seema Punia (Bronze, discus), and Navjeet Kaur Dhillon (Bronze, Discus). As per the recent sources, she commenced her career playing football with the boys of her district in the mud pits cited just near to the rice fields. However, watching her efforts and strength, a local coach recommended her to try her luck in athletics.
After some time, Hima was noticed by an athletic coach with youth directorate of sports and Youth welfare named Nipon.  Even though carrying some cheap spikes, she was able to achieve the gold medal in 100 and 200 meters race. Nipon stated that Hima ran like the wind, he had never observed such a mind-blowing talent and proficiency in ages. The coach advised Hima Das to relocate to Guwahati which is almost 140 kilometres away from her residential. He persuaded the teenager that she can indeed make a bright career in athletics. However, her parents were hesitant to send their youngest child out of six children to a new location. But as Nipon convinced her parents, they got ready to take this step for her youngest daughter. All her accommodation and living facilities were arranged by Nipon. Nipon was more than the coach to Hima as he always encouraged her to dream big. As per his statement, only a few people in this world are blessed with special God-given talents. The main motive of Nipon was to ensure that the youth becomes the part of the Asian games, however, her achievement of achieving the title of a gold medallist in the World U20 Championship left everyone amazed.
