Senior advocate, Khaidem Mani has requested to the government for strengthening of the High Court of Manipur. The government should appoint the vacant posts including Chief Justice Post and appoint more judges for smooth functioning of the High Court.
Khaidem Main further shared with the Press that it has been over five years of having the High Court in the state. Yet, it is not functioning up to its full strength because of the lack of number of required judges. Above that, post of the Chief Justice has been remaining vacant since Justice Abhilasha Kumari’s retirement.
According to the lawyer, the High Court must be operational with four judges and one Chief Justice. As a result of this prevailing state, general public is facing inconveniences along with litigants and lawyers. With just two judges out of them, one is the acting chief justice, the litigants are often deprived with appellant forum. In this situation, litigants have only one option left and that is to approach the Supreme Court.
Therefore, senior advocate, Khaidem Mani wants to pull the government’s attention over necessary actions to strengthen the position of the High Court as soon as possible.
