Yesterday, State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has informed Press that Assam Cancer Care Foundation and the Tata Trust will collectively establish 19 new specialised cancer hospital in the state. The foundation stone of the hospitals will be laid on June 19.

The Minister informed Press that all these hospitals have been conceptualized based on a 3-tier system and will be constructed under the L3 (Level 3), L2 (Level 2), L1 (Level 1) divisions.

He further added that L3 hospitals will maintain the ‘Basic’ standards of a hospital and will be located in Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Barpeta, Dhubri, Jorhat, Diphu, Silchar, Tezpur, Dibrugarh districts of the state.

L2 hospitals will maintain the ‘Surgery’ standards and will be set up in Karimganj, Nalbari, Goalpara, Haflong, Darrang, Kokrajhar, Golaghat, Sivasagar and Tinsukia districts.

L1 hospitals will have ‘Sophisticated’ standards and first will be established in Guwahati.”
