During the last Friday, At the World U20 Championship, Hima Das represented India by achieving the post of a gold medallist in 400 meters race held at Tampere. For Dhing i.e., restricted by the Brahmaputra and an arrival of migrants, it was perhaps an amazing day. Hima Das has raised her voice against the illegal access of migrants to her native land. There are several artists and famous faces came from the state. For instance, actor Debananda Goswami, Dramatist Basanta Kumar Saikia, and the professional writer Anamika Bora have emerged from this small palace. However, Hima’s achievement and action against the influx of migrants have indeed provided the region with a fresh lease of life.
Dhing that is almost cited at the hub of the state is now experiencing the continuous influx of thousands of migrants every year. As per Rajanikanta Bora’s statement, the state consisted of less than 10 houses of migrants in 1942; however, the condition today has completely altered. People residing in Assam include various Muslim and Bengali migrants that don’t even bother about their neighbors and the state. There also exist some Assamese families that prefer selling off their cultivation fields and belonging due to the continuous pressure of these migrants.
Umanyu Hazarika’s reported that “it’s really heartbreaking to know that 90% of Dhing has been taken over by Muslim of East Bengal and East Pakistan. And the thing that is adding fuel to the fire is that the Assamese are pressurized and dominated by these group of migrant that don’t even have any rights over the land.
Surprisingly, Hima Das has been especially known for her actions against social illegal activities in the sector. The last hearing on the court regarding the matter was held at 27 June and Hima’s father Mr Das clearly stated that he never hesitates to visit the court for a daughter who has raised his head with pride. The activist’s and gold medalist’s mother Jonali Das stated that she initially was indecisive to support Hima for her desire of joining the athletic field. She even opposed her father taking the daughter’s side and giving her liberty. But, Hima’s voice against social ills and her confidence have really made her mother and entire India proud of her actions at this very teenage.
