Official statistics about death caused by this natural calamity is now 8 in Assam and 21 in Manipur, Tripura. On Saturday, another landslide and heavy rainfall in Assam has caused the death of four people. In last few days, Manipur and Tripura residents have also faced the black face of nature in a similar manner.
According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority, two people in Cachar district and one each in Hailakandi and Hojai districts lost their lives in the flood. The heavy rainfall and subsequent flood have affected 4, 25,373 people across seven districts.
On the occasion of Eid, Muslim in Hailakandi had to offer their prayers on rooftops of their houses. Rivers the Katakhal, the Dholeswari and the Barak are flowing above the danger mark. Due to this, almost all the villages are under flood water in this district.
Hailakandi Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan told the media person that 87 relief camps have been opened up and these are accommodating 54,364 flood-affected people.
In Dima Hasao district of Assam, Officials have shared about landslide at Mahur, Harangajao and Maibang. This has caused serious damage to 114 houses and one person was also found dead due to this natural calamity. Train services remain affected on the Lumding-Badarpur hill section in Assam.
In Tripura, fresh landslides in Dharmanagar area have also cut off Tripura from the rest of the country. Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb visited the flood-affected Udaipur area and held meetings with officials for providing relief in flood-affected areas.
Two national highways — 37 and 2; which link Manipur to Assam and Myanmar respectively have caved in along the mountain areas. No passage for heavy vehicle traffic for the past three days.
However, the situation in and around Imphal has now a bit improved.
