In few days’ rainfalls, most of the major rivers that run through Imphal city particularly the Imphal and Nambul rivers are overflowed. Manipur government has declared holiday for all government offices and educational institutions including private sectors under the government.
The incessant rain has overflowed the main rivers flowing in Imphal. As a result, residential areas in Imphal and valley areas are submerged in flood. Flood has also affected the AIR, Imphal as its complex has been submerged in the flood. Thus, no radio telecast in the area.
The flood impact in Imphal came to light when the Imphal River was breached at Checkon area at around 2 am. A rescue team of police trainees at the strength of 50 arrives at Chekon and its nearby areas in Imphal East.
Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has also visited some of the flood-affected sites including the mainly affected area of Checkon.
The flood control room has provided the helpline number 0385-2451550, which is available round the clock. Assam Rifles has extended helping hand fighting the water flow in many affected areas.
