In the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2018, yesterday was a good day for the Indian team. The good news is about India’s Mirabai Chanu as she won the Gold medal in women’s 48 kg weightlifting. Mirabai Chanu is now also a player with six Commonwealth games records.
The 23-year-old Mirabai Chanu is from Manipur. Yesterday, she has lifted 196 kg in Gold Coast, Australia to win the Gold medal in this category of weightlifting sport.
In the same competition, Mauritius player Marie Hanitra Roilya Ranaivosoa got the Silver medal and Sri Lanka’s Dinusha Gomes won the Bronze medal.
Mirabai Chanu has also broken the existing Games record with a lift of 80 kg. She made Commonwealth Games records too. She lifted 26 kg more than her nearest competitor. She registered 86 kg in the snatch and 110 kg in clean and jerk for a total of 196 kg. Chanu has given two successful attempts of 84 kg and 86 kg. 86 Kg was her new personal best. That attempt has given here massive lead of 10 kilograms over Mauritius player Marie at the end of the snatch session.
Indian woman weightlifter has also given the great performance in the clean and jerk session. She lifted 103 kg in her first attempt to take the lead straight away. After this, another successful lift of 107 kg consolidated her chances of a Gold medal. Then this Manipuri weightlifter went on to achieve her personal best with 110 kg and got the gold medal in this tournament.
This was India’s first Gold medal in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2018.
